Deepfake

Deepfake refers to synthetic media in which a person’s likeness is digitally manipulated to create realistic-looking audio and video content. This technology typically employs artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, particularly generative adversarial networks (GANs). Deepfakes can replace one individual’s face or voice with another’s, resulting in content that can be remarkably convincing. While they can be used for entertainment, such as in films and social media, deepfakes also raise ethical and legal concerns due to their potential misuse, including the creation of misleading information, impersonation, and reputation damage. The term “deepfake” is a blend of “deep learning,” a subset of AI techniques, and “fake,” denoting the deceptive nature of the content produced.
